...trying to create a little magic with oil paint...
My passion is painting. Intrigued by faces, whether people or animals, my first joy was painting dogs and that is still my favourite subject. As I have gained more experience, portraiture has become my new challenge. I am excited by colour, and mood as well as subject.
I have come late to painting after many years of raising children and earning a living in other ways. After experimenting with textiles and fibre art, I switched to traditional art media to try and achieve the degree of realism and expression that I sought.
I found myself stitching less and painting on to the fabric more.
Self-taught, I am grateful to the many artist-teachers who share their expertise so generously on the internet.
My inspiration comes from the world around me and the work of many realist painters from Velasquez to John Singer Sargent.
Special mention must be made of my dog, Bilbo Baggins, who was my first model and continues to be my Muse.
I paint in oils, sometimes other media, and post new, small paintings on my blog.
Small paintings are available to purchase from Daily Paintworks or directly from me.
